Do You Need to Find a Nearby Panania Florist?
Panania is a suburb of Sydney, 23 kilometres from the CBD. There are two main theories as to the suburb’s name; that it is derived from a province of the Roman Empire known as ‘Pannonia’, or that it was named for the word meaning “sun rising in the east and shining on the hills” in an Aboriginal dialect. Originally part of the East Hills district, Panania became a station on the railway line in 1931, and the Panania Railway Station is a heritage-listed site. After World War II, the suburb was the site of mass housing developments, and Panania remains largely residential today.
The suburb’s business district is centred around the train station, with the Panania Post Office, Panania Pharmacy, and the Panania Family Clinic just one street over. Many specialty shops are also present, including a tobacconist, fashion shops, and the Panania Florist. Eateries concentrate in the district, with cafés, restaurants and the Panania Hotel all found within the area.
Panania is also home to several schools, including Panania North Public School, Panania Public School, Tower Street Public School and St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School. The latter is attached to the St. Christopher Catholic Church, which is housed in the former Panania Star Cinema building. The church is just one of many places of worship in the suburb, with the Panania Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Panania Uniting Church and the Arabic Calvary Chapel also found within the district.
As is typical of many Sydney suburbs, Panania doesn’t lack for greenspace. Kelso Park is the largest of the suburb’s parks, split into Kelso Park North and Kelso Park South by a branch of the Georges River. The park is known for a large number of sporting fields including a baseball field, softball field, football oval and a cricket pitch. Runamux Softball Club is based here, as is Panania-East Hills RSL Youth Soccer Club. Kelso Beach Reserve is separated from the park only by Henry Lawson Drive, and offers swimming, fishing, and even a beachside playground. Marco Reserve also boasts several sports fields, and is the home grounds of the St. Christopher’s Soccer Club and the Revesby Workers Football Club.
The Picnic Point Bowling and Social Club takes its name from the suburb Picnic Point, but is actually found within Panania. The venue offers lawn bowling greens alongside TAB betting, Club Keno, and dining opportunities.
